Despite major progress in HIV treatment, AIDS-related mortality remains high, with 630,000 deaths in 2023, and children bearing a disproportionate burden. As the HIV funding landscape shifts, urgent action is needed to sustain and strengthen advanced HIV disease (AHD) programs to prevent deaths among adults and children living with HIV.

Unitaid’s investments in AHD, including the THRIVE project, led by CHAI in partnership with AFROCAB and Penta, are supporting country-led strategies to scale access to the AHD package of care for adults and children, whilst navigating the emerging funding challenges. This session will examine how countries are adapting AHD programs to strengthen community leadership, implement differentiated service delivery models, and maintain continuity of care amid shifting financial landscapes. A roundtable discussion will follow to explore long-term strategies for building resilient and sustainable access to life-saving AHD services.
